Eat REAL is an organization that understands the profound link between our food system, human, and planet health. The foods we need to keep us healthy and thriving are the foods that have minimal impact on climate and nurture a healthier planet. Our current food system is not designed this way, and according to the latest IPCC report, our individual choices, including how we eat, can have a meaningful impact. Change is happening, and we have the tools to heal our planet, but we need to do more. Eat REAL is on a mission to accelerate this change, and we know our school system plays a massive role in the solution.
Our Eat REAL Certification program encourages and supports practices that positively affect the planet. We empower school district leaders to invest not only in their students but also in our planet’s future. Together, we increase plant-forward menu items, strategically adjust purchasing to focus on local, seasonal, and responsibly grown ingredients, increase scratch cooking and implement strong waste management practices. By the end of the next school year, the potential impact our Eat REAL Schools will have on reducing GHGs will be the equivalent of planting 690,000 trees.
“Food, soil and human health and food apartheid deserve the attention and investment being given to them by Eat REAL” – Paul Hawken
