Last week, our team hosted a call with the School Food Service Directors, and their teams, from five Bay Area school districts. Each of these districts is helping families continue to have access to healthy food during this crisis. Across the board, each leader displayed an unwavering commitment to raising the bar for their food programs so kids can get the nutritious meals they need during COVID-19 and beyond.
There are so many passionate change-makers in the food system with school leaders at the forefront. Everyone shared their challenges (e.g., figuring out remote ordering systems), tips and tricks they’re using for fall meal planning and execution, along with menu items that are a win for student health and planet health (e.g., plant-powered items).
The new school year brings many unknowns for their programs, but they are not letting the uncertainty impact their laser focus on doing everything they can to support the children of their communities. We believe in the power of people working together to create change and these leaders are a true inspiration!
